Overview

Galactosemia is an inherited metabolic disorder that prevents the body from properly metabolizing galactose. TGAL refers to the measurement of galactose and galactose-1-phosphate (galactose and galactose-1-phosphate) levels in the blood.

Galactosemia is a rare but serious disease in which people lack a specific enzyme that prevents the body from converting ingested galactose into glucose. Untreated galactosemia can cause serious complications, including jaundice, hypoglycemia, liver dysfunction, and problems with the nervous system and eyes. Therefore, it is very important to screen newborns and infants for TGAL in order to detect galactosemia as early as possible and take appropriate treatment and management measures.

Neonatal Total Galactose Kit is used to quantitatively determine the content of total galactose (galactose and galactose-1-phosphate) in dried blood spot samples collected by filter paper from neonatal heel blood, which is used as an auxiliary diagnosis of neonatal galactosemia.
